Cards are sent to companies like @psacard , which evaluate them on a 1 to 10 scale. A perfect 10 is called “Gem Mint,” and graded cards are sealed in plastic to preserve their condition.

When Aaron Judge won MVP in 2022, the number of his graded cards surged. Shohei Ohtani’s numbers have climbed even faster as he now has nearly 700,000 cards graded, second only to Ken Griffey Jr. in all time rankings.
